though to get it to work with my version of clang & Xcode I had to massage an "Lvalue cast" clang.llvm.org/compatibility.… in ttymsg.c
as well as configure with CFLAGS="-Wno-error=return-type" and skip building ftp (for now) with --disable-ftp
